It is important to note that the BSA did not make the Boy Scouting program co-ed; instead, the organization introduced a unique model that builds on the benefits of a single-gender program while also providing character and leadership opportunities for both boys and girls. Families can choose to sign up their sons and daughters for BSA Troops and Cub Scouts.

Using the same curriculum as the Boy Scouts program, the organization delivers a program for older girls (11 to 17)  that enables them to earn the Eagle Scout rank. 

 This unique approach allows the organization to maintain the integrity of the singlegender model while delivering the convenience of one program that meets the needs of today’s busy families.
